The beginning of this project consists of a series of custom Google Maps, one or more for each title of Lennox’s work (some had more editions and printings than others) indicating potential locations of extant copies. As each map is completed, we’ll share links here.

Notes

  1. The primary sources for the data in these maps are OCLC/Worldcat and the English Short Title Catalog (ESTC). These sources are far from perfect for this work, but they will suffice for a preliminary data set. Currently the data is raw; updates will be provided and noted as each prospective copy is double-checked with institutional holdings to ensure that each listing is a physical copy and not simply access to online versions.
  2. ESTC does not consistently include foreign language translations of Lennox’s work, so additional research is going to be required to locate them and add them to the project.
  3. There are multiple maps for some entries because there’s a limit on layers and content in Google Maps — those entries exceed what’s allowed.
  4. As of July 2023, these maps have had an initial pass to remove duplicate listings but still have not been thoroughly scrubbed to remove false positives. That comes next. 🙂 Various periodicals may still be missing from this list pending verification.
