Back to school with you, Dear Reader! Or at least with me. Welcome to another installment of the State of the LBP.
So progress slowed slightly this month due to the need for course prep and such. I did not manage to clear all of N, but I did get through “Na-“, which I feel is no small accomplishment. As a note, there’s a decent number of works at the National Library of Poland, and at the National Library of Austria. The National Trust in the UK has a sort of catalogue, but it’s terrible in that you really have to look for each location (it’s all the old estates that are in the trust) and see what they have. It is literally not worth the time right now. Perhaps if I were in the UK for a summer or something, but for right now it’s going in the “I’ll come back to this one of these days” bucket.
With the end of the summer, I’m also losing my volunteer research assistant, Olivia. Her work was super helpful in just getting more data in the database, and for that I’m super grateful. All my thanks and best wishes for her future success.
In addition to my work doing data entry, I also took the opportunity to go in and actually look at one of the books at Kelvin Smith Library and take some notes on it (The Sister, in case you were wondering). I’m going to start trying to look over the books I’ve got local and narrow down both the categories of data I’m keeping, how I want to handle things like marginalia, and what I want to get out of the data I’m collecting in the long run. I tell my students all the time that all communication is editing; I need to take my own advice and figure out what my priorities are long-term for this project.
