State of the Project, September 2026

A clip from Hogarth’s “Gin Lane” featuring a child falling off the stairs. Whoops.

Greetings, Readers! I regret to say that the inevitable “whoops” happened over the past month. After I posted last, I realized that I had not saved as often as I’d meant to, and thus a few days work went out the window after my computer updated and rebooted. The loss of data wasn’t that great (I had to go back to the National Museum of Sweden entries), but it was more the emotional hit that got me. I made faces at it and hid it under tabs of random sites and a pile of Steam game purchases until I could look at it again with equanimity.

Despite the minor kerfluffle, however, some good things did come from it. First, I got through the main part of Hades by Supergiant Games without resorting to God Mode, which is a great achievement for someone of my gaming caliber. Second, I discovered that Sweden has a search engine called Libris that searches EVERY LIBRARY IN SWEDEN simultaneously, including all the universities, the state library, and so forth, including special collections. I’m now finding multiple copies of the Stockholm-published translations of Sophia and Henrietta, and I’m not done yet. I’m actually really happy this happened, for all that it was frustrating at the time. Who would have thought that Sweden would be such a good location for info? Swedish libraries, you’re awesome.

As a note, the downside of this means that for this update at least, there’s no new numbers to speak of because I’m making up lost ground. That being said, we should be back on track for October. Have a good Pumpkin Spice season and don’t fall off the stairs in Gin Lane!
